Dustin Hudson—R. Clayton McWhorter Scholarship

What is your hometown, and year in school?
I’m originally from Paris, TN, and I am a sophomore.
What has the Beaman scholarship meant to your academic career, and what has it meant for your family?
This scholarship has meant that I have been able to comfortably attend the University of Tennessee Knoxville with no worries as to how I am going to pay for it. It gives me peace of mind and allows me to concentrate on my academics and do the best job I possibly can here.
What is your most memorable UT experience so far?
My most memorable experience would probably be my first full day of class as a freshman collage student, being independent and wholly making my own decisions in my education.
What makes UT so special? Why did you choose UT?
I choose UT because it offered the perfect educational environment and has many programs that I wanted to participate in. The Campus is urban yet not cluttered and closed, and the city of Knoxville offers everything an attending college student could want.
What is your favorite place on campus?
The Hill in the evening, when Ayres hall is lit and there is not a tremendous amount of people around.
What would you like for the donor(s) of your scholarship to know about you? What would you like to say to the donor(s)?
I would like the donors to know that I have used the money they have so graciously given myself and other recipients for what they intended—my education. I would like them to know that because of what they have given I can have an enjoyable college experience and that they have been an integral part of my success.
Do you have any childhood memories of UT?
My older sister is an alumna and attended the university when I was very young, and I do have very fond memories of visiting her and attending sporting events and being overwhelmed by the sheer size of the institution.
Describe the UT Spirit.
The UT spirit means being kind, loyal, and respectful to the University of Tennessee, your fellow attendees, professors, and anyone who is on the campus or anywhere else. It means working hard to further yourself and your school, and to show that spirit at all times.
What are your plans after graduation?
As of right now I have made no definite plans for my future life after graduation, but I am sure that my next few years at UT will help me to realize what I want out of my life.
