A. Dean and Ann Skadberg Make $1 Million Gift to UT

April 24, 2008

KNOXVILLE – A. Dean and Ann Skadberg have made their dedication to the University of Tennessee a lifelong commitment, and a new $1 million gift to the university will contribute to their legacy across the campus.

Their gift is part of the Campaign for Tennessee, a $1 billion fundraising effort that was officially launched on April 17 at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

The gift from the Skadbergs will benefit three different programs. It will create the A. Dean and Ann Skadberg Global Initiatives Endowment in the UT Knoxville College of Business Administration (CBA); a similarly named endowment in the UT Knoxville College of Education, Health and Human Sciences (CEHHS); and the A. Dean and Ann Skadberg Fund for Student Athlete Academic Excellence in the men's and women's athletic departments.

"Ann and I look on this as an opportunity to give something back to UT, an institution that has been such an important and meaningful part of our lives for more than three generations," said Dean Skadberg.

Ann Skadberg is an alumnus of CEHHS, and is the daughter of former UT President Andy Holt. Dean Skadberg, an alumnus of CBA, served as the 2005-2006 president of the UT National Alumni Association. Their gift is part of the Campaign for Tennessee.

The Campaign for Tennessee -- the most ambitious effort in the university’s 214-year history -- places UT among the ranks of the nation’s largest public and private institutions that have sought this level of private support.

The campaign, which launched its silent phase in 2005, will secure private gifts that, in turn, will contribute substantially to the distinct, but linked, campuses comprised by the University of Tennessee system. Funds raised through the campaign will directly support the objectives of UT's strategic plan, as outlined by UT President John Petersen. Among those objectives are improved student access and success, research and economic development, outreach and globalization.
