A Welcome Message from President Petersen
When I came to the University of Tennessee in July 2004, I was immediately impressed with the tradition of support the university enjoys from its alumni, volunteer leadership, and friends. As I have come to know many of you personally, my gratitude for your involvement in the life of the university and investments in the university community has grown.
The University of Tennessee has numerous world-class programs; faculty; students; scientists; and medical, agricultural, and basic research initiatives. I have shaken hands with many of the professors, students, and researchers whose creative genius have brought national acclaim to this institution. These efforts will be transformed through The Campaign for Tennessee and ensure UT’s rightful place as one of the most prestigious state schools in the nation. Furthermore, it will enable UT to better serve the people of Tennessee by providing quality academic programs and creating an engine for economic development.
I appreciate your interest in and support of The Campaign for Tennessee—the most ambitious fund-raising effort in the university’s 214-year history. This campaign combines the spirit of what is special here in Tennessee with the vision of our volunteer leadership into a plan for action.
Please accept my personal thanks for your guidance, leadership, and support of the University
of Tennessee.
Sincerely yours,

John D. Petersen
President
